A showcase of Sealy ISD art students artwork will be up for auction on April 21 at the Hill Center in Sealy.

Between April 17 to 20 the artwork that will be up for auction will be on display at Citizen Bank.

“April 21 the reception will be held at the Hill Center. There will be beverages and horderves severed starting at 5:30 p.m.,” said Sealy High School Art Teacher Brooke Trahan. “The live auction will begin promptly at 6 p.m. and the event will conclude at 7:30 p.m.”  Trahan said this is the first year for Arts & Appetizers event.

“This is something that I have been working on for the past two years. As I student I had a very similar event I got to participate in, and it was a big event for the arts and community. Sealy has not yet had a district-wide show,” Trahan said. “I also wanted to provide a platform for the local businesses and community to support the art students and the programs.”

Art students from Elementary through High School will be featured at the event.

“The artwork shown will be from all different projects throughout the school year. The students who participate are picking the artwork they feel best displays their talent and creativity,” Trahan stated.

Trahan said the students spent a lot of time making their creations.

“Most projects students work on take anywhere from four weeks to eight weeks. Many of [the students] spend long hours outside of class as well perfecting their art,” Trahan expressed.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Sealy ISD art students and art programs.

“Majority of the proceeds will go directly back to the students to help raise money for college, and some to art programs to help pay for supply's and competitions fees for art students,” she said.

Not all artwork at the show will be for sale.

“We will have it divided by artwork for viewing, silent auction, and live auction. People and business representatives attending the event with the intention of purchasing art can bring cash or check. We can also send an invoice after the event with the documentation for writing off their donation,” Trahan stated.

Trahan said they are hoping each year this event is something both the students and the community look forward to and that it will grow each year.

The event is sponsored by the Sealy Lions Club.

“If people or a business representative cannot attend but would like to donate they can mail a check to Sealy Lions Club at P.O. 403, Sealy, TX 77474 memo Sealy ISD Art. Sealy Lions Club is a 501(c) organization with means they are a non-profit organization and donations to them can be written off by the donor,” Trahan stated.

The Hill Center is located at 1000 Main St. in Sealy.
